Padang Bai

Trip Details

Diving in Padang Bai

A charming coastal port town, Padang Bai offers some of Bali’s most diverse and rewarding dive sites. From graceful turtles and reef sharks to vibrant corals and schools of exotic fish, every dive here is a visual feast. Advanced divers can explore the thrilling Shark Point or Gili Mimpang and Tepekong, while Open Water and Advanced divers alike will love the calm, colorful reefs of Blue Lagoon, Jepun, and The Jetty. All dives in Padang Bai are reached by traditional jukung boats, adding a touch of local charm to your underwater adventure.

Blue Lagoon

Depth: 5–30 meters

Diving at Blue Lagoon feels like stepping into a living aquarium. This vibrant site features gentle coral slopes on one side and a stunning wall on the other, teeming with an incredible variety of tropical reef fish. Perfect for both beginners and experienced divers, Blue Lagoon promises crystal-clear visibility, calm waters, and an unforgettable splash of color beneath the surface.

Jepun

Depth: 10–25 meters

Jepun — named after the Balinese word for frangipani — is a favorite among macro enthusiasts. This vibrant site is home to curious ribbon eels, colorful mantis shrimp, and plenty of fascinating small critters. A recently sunk fishing boat adds extra excitement, serving as an artificial wreck and a haven for moray eels, large groupers, and even the occasional passing shark.

The Jetty

Depth: 5–18 meters

The Jetty in Padang Bai is a true paradise for underwater photographers. Beneath the pylons, you’ll find an extraordinary variety of rare and colorful marine life — from frogfish and pipefish to mantis shrimp, flying gurnards, and countless nudibranchs. This vibrant site is full of surprises, though it can experience some surge, so dives here depend on the right sea conditions.

Shark Point

Depth: 25–30 meters

Located off Gili Mimpang, just east of Padang Bai, Shark Point is one of Bali’s top sites for spotting reef sharks. The site features a series of dramatic underwater pinnacles and vibrant walls covered in coral, offering thrilling dives with plenty of big-fish encounters and stunning scenery.

Gili Tepekong

Depth: 18–30 meters

Located just east of Padang Bai beside Gili Mimpang, Gili Tepekong is famous as a seasonal cleaning station for the majestic Mola Mola (oceanic sunfish) from June to October. This site also features an impressive underwater cave that begins at 26 meters and rises to 18 meters, where divers often spot resting reef sharks and enjoy breathtaking underwater scenery.

Gili Biaha

Depth: 5–30 meters

Gili Biaha is a small, crescent-shaped island northeast of Gili Tepekong, known for its thrilling dives and strong, unpredictable currents — making it suitable only for Advanced Divers. The highlight of this site is the Shark Cave on the northeastern side, with an entrance between 9–12 meters, where white-tip reef sharks are often seen resting. The dive continues along a dramatic wall and sloping reef adorned with vibrant corals and volcanic rock formations. Keep an eye out for lobsters, large groupers, frogfish, cuttlefish, and a colorful array of nudibranchs.
