Diving in Nusa Penida
Just a 30-minute speedboat ride east of Sanur, Nusa Penida offers some of Bali’s most spectacular diving. Declared a Marine Protected Area in 2010, the island boasts vibrant coral reefs and an incredible diversity of marine life. Here, divers can encounter graceful resident manta rays at the famous Manta Point and experience truly world-class underwater adventures.
Crystal Bay
Depth: 5–30 meters
One of Nusa Penida’s most iconic dive sites, Crystal Bay is world-renowned for its incredible visibility and the chance to encounter the majestic Mola Mola (oceanic sunfish) during the season (June–October). These gentle giants — the world’s largest bony fish — visit the bay’s crystal-clear waters for cleaning, creating an unforgettable experience for divers.
Manta Point
Depth: 10–20 meters
Located on the southern side of Nusa Penida, Manta Point is world-famous for its year-round population of graceful manta rays. This natural cleaning station attracts these gentle giants as cleaner wrasse and butterflyfish remove parasites from their wings — offering divers an awe-inspiring, up-close encounter in Bali’s open blue waters.
Manta Bay
Depth: 10 meters
Located on the west coast of Nusa Penida, Manta Bay is a shallower alternative cleaning station for manta rays. The site is sometimes influenced by surface surge, but it offers incredible opportunities to spot these majestic creatures — often visible gliding gracefully near the surface even before you enter the water.
SD
Depth: 5–30 meters
Located along the north coast of Nusa Penida, SD offers stunningly healthy coral gardens and typically excellent visibility. The site features large coral bommies and vibrant branching corals, making it an ideal drift dive. The currents can be strong here, carrying you effortlessly over the reef as you enjoy the spectacular underwater scenery.
Toyapakeh
Depth: 5–30 meters
Located on the northwest coast of Nusa Penida, Toyapakeh is one of the island’s most vibrant dive sites. The reef is bursting with colorful coral formations and an abundance of tropical marine life. With its terraced plateaus and stunning wall section, this site offers something for every diver — from relaxed exploration to deeper, more advanced dives.
Mangrove Point
Depth: 5–25 meters
Located off the northeast coast of Nusa Lembongan, Mangrove Point is one of Bali’s most popular drift dives. The gentle to moderate current carries you effortlessly along a lush coral slope covered with hard and soft corals, sea fans, and sponges. Schools of reef fish, turtles, and the occasional pelagic pass by, creating a vibrant underwater spectacle. With its excellent visibility and relaxed drift, Mangrove Point is ideal for both beginners and experienced divers looking for a fun, scenic dive.
